Hila: Fort Amsterdam, eine zerstörte Kirche und die älteste Moschee


Fort Amsterdam wurde 1637 auf einer portugiesischen Befestigung gebaut. Es war eines der ersten Forts der VOC auf der Insel Ambon. Es diente u.a. der Abwehr der Portugiesen und buginesischer Piraten.



Dies blieb von der alten Kolonialkirche aus dem Jahre 1780 nach den Unruhen übrig (s.u.)	Die Tua Wapauwe Moschee stammt aus dem Jahre 1414 und gilt als die älteste Ambons

"....Adults and children (of a Bible Camp retreat, more than 100 participants mostly kids) in Stasion Perikanan Universitas Pattimura, Hila were attacked (afternoon, 20 Jan 99), 4 were killed (3 adults and 1 youth) as said by witnesses and all bodies found, and other 2 were killed in the way to Wakal (Ambon direction from there). The station was damaged. In another event, Hila Kristen village was attacked (afternoon), but inhabitants got help by Moslem Kaitetu people. More than 60 houses and 1 (old - historical) church were damaged and burned down. One local was reportedly killed and several injured. 8 visitors from Saparua to Hila are reportedly missing.
